A brief note to advise you that in the area where I live, namely Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire County Council in partnership with SSE Contracting have replaced the old orange street lights with new white lights. These lights shine downwards directly on to the roads and pavements, reducing the impact on the night sky. The First evening after the new lights had beenf itted, I went outside to empty the rubbish and looked up into the evening sky to see an amazing sight; stars everywhere, including starts I had never seen before with the unaided eye. So well done to the parties involved and may the scheme expand nationwide.
